FAAC Keypad & Intercom Repair: The Austin Owner’s Guide

FAAC keypad and intercom repair in Austin usually runs between $190 and $420 installed, depending on whether we’re replacing the keypad face, the intercom module, or both. We keep common FAAC-compatible keypads and intercom parts on our trucks, so most of these calls in the Austin metro are handled same-day. The way owners typically discover the failure is simple: the keypad stops accepting codes, the intercom audio goes fuzzy or dead, or the gate starts ignoring the entry system entirely while the remote still works fine.

When your FAAC keypad goes quiet, it isn’t always the keypad itself. We’ve rolled up to homes in Circle C and Mueller where the entry panel was blinking happily while a corroded wire nut twenty feet away had killed the whole loop. That’s the part most YouTube videos skip. We start with the component, sure, but we test the path before we swap anything. It saves you money and it saves us a second trip.

Which FAAC Models This Applies To

This repair path covers the FAAC entry components most common across Austin’s residential gates: the 4040 and 412 series operators, the E024U control board pairings, and the XP/DS keypad housings FAAC has shipped over the past fifteen years. If your gate has a brushed-metal keypad face or a black intercom grille with a small speaker slot, you’re almost certainly in the right place.

The compatibility gotcha with FAAC is the board revision. FAAC changed the keypad communication protocol on some E024 boards around 2016, so a keypad pulled from a 2013 install may not talk to a 2019 board without a small adapter. We carry both legacy and current-protocol keypads and intercom modules, and we verify the board revision before quoting the part. You don’t pay for a part that won’t handshake.

On the OEM vs aftermarket question: for FAAC keypads and intercom modules, we default to OEM or FAAC-licensed equivalents. The aftermarket keypads that claim universal compatibility often skip the weather sealing FAAC builds into their housing, and in Austin’s humidity and sun, that seal is the difference between a seven-year part and an eighteen-month part. We’d rather tell you the honest price for the part that lasts than put in a cheaper one and see you again next spring.

As an independent service provider, we’re not affiliated with FAAC, but we stock and install FAAC-compatible entry components every week.

Signs Your FAAC Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing

  • Keypad accepts some codes but not others. This typically means worn membrane contacts under specific keys. The digit you use most (often the same number everyone in the house presses) fails first because the conductive trace wears through.
  • Intercom audio is scratchy or only works one direction. In Austin’s humidity, corrosion builds on the speaker and microphone terminals inside the intercom module. Sometimes a cleaning fixes it; usually it’s the speaker foam degrading and tearing.
  • Gate works on remote but not on keypad. That isolates the problem to the entry side: keypad, wiring, or the keypad input on the board. It’s rarely the board itself if the remote still opens the gate.
  • You have to press keys hard or twice. FAAC keypads use a rubber membrane that loses its bounce over time, especially in full Texas sun. The rubber stiffens, the tactile snap disappears, and the keypress doesn’t register reliably.
  • Visitors report the call button does nothing. If the intercom rings inside but the gate doesn’t open from the house button, or vice versa, the issue is usually a relay or wire connection at the intercom module, not the gate motor.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what you can expect to pay in Austin for a FAAC keypad and intercom repair, parts and labor included:

  • Keypad only replacement: $190-$280 installed, depending on whether we match a legacy or current-protocol keypad to your board.
  • Intercom module (speaker/mic assembly) replacement: $220-$340 installed, including re-sealing the housing against weather.
  • Voltage repair or wire splice to the entry component: $150-$210 when the part itself is good but the wiring or power feed has failed.
  • Plate, housing, or mounting restoration: $75-$120 when the existing keypad or intercom can be saved with fresh hardware and weather sealing.

Every one of these prices is given to you in writing before any work starts, per the Kingswell Guarantee. You’ll know exactly what we’re replacing, what it costs, and what the warranty covers. We don’t open the gate, find a surprise, and hand you a bigger invoice. The repair carries a written 365-day guarantee: if it fails inside that window, we come back and correct it at no charge under the 365-Day Done Right Promise.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely do a few checks yourself. Look at the keypad face: is it cracked, sun-bleached, or water-stained inside the display? That’s a visual failure you can spot without touching a wire. You can also check your gate’s breaker and confirm the keypad has power. If the keypad is completely dead with no backlight and no beep, a tripped breaker or a GFCI on the branch circuit is a legitimate find and costs you nothing to fix.

After that, we’d suggest stopping. FAAC keypads and intercoms run on low-voltage DC, which won’t shock you, but the wrong wire touched to the wrong terminal can send 24 volts the wrong direction into a $400 control board. We’ve seen that exact scenario in Austin more times than we can count, usually after a weekend YouTube project. If you’ve confirmed the breaker is good and the keypad is still dead, call us at (254) 280-0629. Tell Dean what it’s doing wrong, and he’ll tell you what it costs to fix it, before pulling out a single tool.
