We stock and install Elite-compatible welded gate components across Austin, and most fabrication repairs run between $280 and $640 installed, depending on the part and how much cutting or welding the job actually needs. If your gate’s hinge plate tore off the post or a weld cracked along the frame, we can usually get it fixed same week, often same day if we’re already working your side of town. Owners usually find us after a bad storm or after years of Texas sun and heat cycles finally split a weld that was holding fine the week before.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
Elite gate systems show up on a lot of Austin properties, and the welding needs fall into a few repeatable categories. The most common are the hinge weld plates on Elite swing gates, the frame corners on Elite slide gates, and the receiver brackets that catch the gate when it closes. If you’ve got an Elite SL3000 or SL5000 slide operator, the chain bracket welds are a known wear point after about five to seven years of Austin heat cycling the metal. Check the small data plate mounted on the operator housing or on the gate frame near the hinge side. That tag gives you the model series and sometimes the manufacturing date, and that’s what tells us whether we’re matching a factory Elite component or fabricating a direct replacement. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Elite, so we’re free to tell you when an OEM part is worth the wait and when a properly spec’d local fabrication does the same job for less.
One gotcha we see often in Austin: many Elite gates were installed with steel that matched the original 2000s-era spec, but a replacement hinge plate welded on today without accounting for the gate’s actual weight and wind load will crack again in a season or two. If the gate face is solid steel panel rather than open pickets, the wind load changes everything. We measure before we weld anything.
Styles & brands we work with

Signs Your Elite Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- Sagging gate at the latch side. When a hinge weld starts to crack or the hinge plate itself begins tearing, the gate leans lower at the free end. You’ll see the latch no longer lines up cleanly with the receiver. The cause is usually a fatigue crack that started at the edge of the original weld.
- A sharp popping or groaning sound when the gate moves. If the gate creaks at one specific spot in its travel, a weld has partially separated and the two pieces are rubbing under load. It’s not a lubrication problem, and grease will just mask the real issue for a week or two.
- Visible rust weep lines running down from a joint. When moisture gets into a cracked weld, rust bleeds out and stains the finish below. In Austin’s humid stretches, that rust line is often the first visible clue that the weld underneath has cracked.
- Operator struggling or tripping the breaker more often. A bent or partially broken bracket changes the gate’s geometry, so the Elite operator has to work harder. If your SL3000 or SL5000 starts faulting out on an afternoon when it used to run smooth, check the brackets and frame corners.
- A gate that bounced in high wind or after a hard slam. Weld fatigue starts small but a gust of wind can turn a hairline crack into a full separation. When the gate wobbles visibly at the hinge post, that’s the structure talking, and it’s not getting better on its own.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Most Elite welding and fabrication repairs in Austin land between $280 and $640, and here’s how that breaks down. A simple hinge plate replacement with cleanup and new welds runs closer to the low end. A full corner reconstruction or a chain bracket replacement on a slide gate, where we’re cutting out the old steel and fabricating a new section to match, runs higher. The price includes the steel, the cutting and grinding time, the welding itself, and a coat of corrosion inhibitor on the repaired area. We write the full price down before any grinding starts, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the weld. If that repair fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
Welding on a gate isn’t a weekend DIY job. A gate under tension can shift while you’re working on it, and a weld that looks good on the surface but has poor penetration will fail without warning, sometimes while the gate is moving. There’s also the electrical side if the operator is involved, and that combination of heavy steel, stored energy, and live controls is where we see the worst homeowner injuries. What you can do safely is check the hinge plates visually, look for those rust weep lines, and note whether the gate sits level. Beyond that, call us at (254) 280-0629 and we’ll diagnose it on site, with a written price, before a single tool comes off the truck.
Dean Prescott puts it the way he’s said it on a hundred Austin driveways: “Tell me what it’s doing wrong, and I’ll tell you what it costs to fix it – before I pull out a single tool.”
FAQs
Factory Elite welds typically hold for 8 to 12 years in the Austin climate, but gates with solid panel construction and full sun exposure on the west side of a property tend to fail at the hinge side sooner. Texas heat cycling plus the occasional gust front stresses metal in ways a cooler climate doesn’t. If your gate is past the 10-year mark and you’re seeing rust lines at the joints, it’s time for an inspection. Call (254) 280-0629 and we’ll give you a straight assessment.
Yes, in most cases the cracked or torn section can be cut out and replaced with new steel welded back in, provided the surrounding metal is still sound. We’ll tell you honestly if the surrounding steel is too far gone and a new gate section is the smarter money. Either way, the price is written down before we start.
Most hinge plate and bracket repairs take between two and four hours on site, including grinding, fitting, welding, and a corrosion coat. Larger slide gate corner repairs can run most of a day. We’ll give you a real arrival window and a time estimate when you call, so you’re not standing around guessing.
We keep common steel stock thicknesses on the truck for hinge plate and bracket fabrication, so most Elite swing and slide gate repairs can be handled the same day in Austin. For specialty Elite parts that need to be ordered, we’ll tell you that upfront and give you a timeline in writing. We also carry parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems, so if your operator side needs attention too, the same truck can handle both.
