We stock and install LiftMaster-compatible welded steel components for gates across Austin, with most fabrication and reinforcement jobs running $240 – $680 parts and labor, depending on the bracket, hinge, or track section involved. If your gate is sagging, binding, or a weld has cracked clean through, you’ll usually spot the failure before the gate stops moving altogether. In our experience, Austin’s summer heat and the freeze-thaw cycles we get in January and February are brutal on welds that were never quite square to begin with.
Most owners find us the same way: the gate worked fine in March, then a weld pops in August when the steel expands, or a hinge tears loose after somebody backs into the gate. By the time you’re reading this, the gate is probably groaning, dragging, or jammed against the post. We can match and fabricate the part for your LiftMaster operator, and we’ll tell you the price before any work starts. That’s the Portcullis way, and it’s how Dean Prescott has run jobs in South Congress, Barton Hills, and everywhere else around Austin since long before we hung our shingle.
Which LiftMaster Models This Applies To
Welding and fabrication work applies broadly to LiftMaster swing gate operators (the LA400, LA412, and LA500 series), slide gate operators (the SL3000 and SL585 series), and their accompanying steel gate frames, hinges, and track systems. Most of the failures we weld in Austin fall into three categories: gate frame members that crack from repeated use, hinge or bracket plates that tear away from the post, and slide gate track sections that warp or split under Texas sun.
One compatibility gotcha we run into regularly: LiftMaster’s residential swing arms (LA400/LA412) use a lighter-gauge mounting bracket than the commercial LA500, and a bracket fabricated for a LA500 won’t line up with the bolt pattern on a residential unit. Before welding anything, we check the arm’s mounting plate against the gate itself. If the gate was custom-built, the safe bet is to measure the bracket spacing and the gate post thickness rather than assume one LiftMaster part fits another.
We typically recommend OEM LiftMaster brackets and hinge plates where the part exists and is still available. For one-off repairs, like a cracked decorative gate frame or a custom post mount, a well-executed local fabrication often outlasts a reproduction part. The steel we use here in our Austin shop is the same grade you’d find on commercial security gates, and we weld it to the existing structure rather than just tacking a patch over the crack.

Signs Your LiftMaster Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- A visible crack at a hinge or bracket weld. This is the most common one we see. The crack usually starts small, maybe half an inch, then spreads after a few hundred more open-close cycles. If you see rust staining around the crack, that’s moisture working its way in, which means the steel has been compromised for a while.
- The gate drags on the ground or scrapes the post. When a hinge weld weakens, the gate drops slightly at the far end. The operator then works harder to move the gate, which puts more strain on the gearbox and the remaining welds. Let it go too long and you’re replacing the operator too.
- A popping or creaking sound during the opening cycle. That’s metal shifting against metal under load. Sometimes it’s just a dry hinge, but if the sound comes with a visible flex or wobble in the gate frame, a weld is pulling away from its joint.
- The gate leans noticeably to one side when open or closed. A gate that’s off-level by more than an inch at the latch end almost always means a hinge plate has bent or a weld has stretched. Steel doesn’t stretch much, so when it does, the joint is failing.
- Rust bleeding from inside a tube joint. Hollow steel gate frames rust from the inside out in Austin’s humidity. You’ll see a brown stain where the tubing meets the hinge plate. By the time the stain appears, the wall of the tube may be paper-thin behind the weld.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here in Austin, most LiftMaster welding and fabrication repairs land between $240 and $680 installed. Door and gate hinge replacements run closer to $240 – $350, while a cracked frame member that needs cutting out and splicing with new steel will push toward $450 – $680. Full gate track replacement for a slide system can exceed that depending on the length and whether we’re pouring new concrete anchors for the track supports.
Every quote we give is written down and agreed to before we strike an arc. The price includes labor, the steel, consumables like welding rod and grinding discs, and any necessary touch-up paint or rust inhibitor. If we see additional damage once the gate is apart, we stop and show you before adding a dollar to the job. That’s the Kingswell Guarantee, and it’s stamped on every invoice we leave in Austin. If the weld fails within 365 days, we come back and fix it at no charge under our 365-Day Done Right Promise.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself. Look for visible cracks at the hinges and brackets. Push the gate gently and watch for flex at the joints. If you see movement where two pieces of steel meet, that’s a failing weld. But here’s the honest truth about welding: it’s not a skill you pick up on a Saturday. A bad weld looks solid and fails under load, and that’s when someone gets hurt or a gate comes off its track and pins a car, a dog, or a person.
The voltage and amperage have to match the steel thickness, the joint has to be clean, and the penetration has to be deep enough that the weld is stronger than the surrounding metal. We’ve cut apart plenty of DIY welds in Austin that looked fine from the outside and were barely holding on underneath. If the gate is heavy, and most LiftMaster-equipped gates are, let us handle the hot work. Call (254) 280-0629 and we’ll give you a real price range over the phone.
FAQs
A properly welded gate repair in Austin should last 10 to 15 years or more, assuming the joint was cleaned, the correct filler rod was used, and the repair was painted or sealed. In practice, a weld done right outlasts the rest of the gate. The bigger risk in our climate is moisture trapped inside hollow steel, so we seal and treat the area rather than just blowing a bead over the crack.
Sometimes, yes. If the crack is in a non-load-bearing cosmetic joint and the surrounding steel is sound, we can grind it out and reweld it. But if the crack runs through a hinge plate or a structural frame member that’s already rusted thin, patching it just moves the failure point down the line. We’ll show you the difference before you spend a dime. Call (254) 280-0629 and tell us what you’re seeing.
Most single-joint welding repairs take 60 to 90 minutes on site once the gate is prepped. If we need to cut out a section of frame tube, splice in new steel, and grind everything smooth, you’re looking at 2 to 3 hours. We’ll give you a real arrival window before we show up, and we leave the job site cleaner than we found it.
We keep common LiftMaster hinge plates, bracket stock, and steel tube in standard sizes on our trucks, along with the welding equipment to fabricate most non-standard repairs on site. For parts we don’t stock, which sometimes happens with LiftMaster commercial series components, we order them and come back. And if you have a Mighty Mule, Ghost Controls, or DoorKing opener on the same gate, we service those too.
If your gate is cracked, leaning, or dragging, don’t wait for the next Austin heat wave to finish the job. Call (254) 280-0629 for a free estimate. Tell me what it’s doing wrong, and I’ll tell you what it costs to fix it – before I pull out a single tool.
