Linear gate welding and fabrication repairs in Austin typically run $220 to $680 installed, depending on whether we’re repairing a cracked weld on an existing bracket or fabricating a new hinge mount or gate frame section from scratch. Most jobs are done the same day we arrive, since our trucks carry welding gear, steel stock, and the common Linear mounting brackets. The way owners usually find us is simple: a gate that drags, sags, or makes a grinding noise when the Linear operator tries to move it. That sound is metal failing, and it almost never fixes itself.
We’re an independent gate repair company that works on Linear operators and gates every week. We’re not affiliated with Linear or the Nortek family of brands, but we know their mounting points, arm geometry, and stress points better than most. When a Linear actuator pushes a gate for the thousandth time in Texas heat, the welds and brackets take the abuse. That’s where we come in.
Which Linear Models This Applies To
Welding and fabrication work applies to nearly every Linear gate installation, but the specifics depend on what the operator is bolted to. The most common Linear swing-gate operators in Austin are the Linear LRA series (LRA1000, LRA2000), the older Linear SW series, and the slide-gate workhorses like the Linear SL and GSL lines. Each one mounts differently, which means the welded bracket, post plate, or gate tab we fabricate has to match the arm’s travel and pivot point exactly.
The compatibility gotcha most people miss is arm geometry. A Linear LRA arm has a specific throw distance, and if a repaired hinge sits even 3/8 inch off its original line, the operator has to work harder on every cycle. That’s how a fresh weld job becomes a failed operator board six months later. When we fabricate, we match the original mounting geometry, not just the bolt pattern.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question for Linear specifically: for brackets and gate tabs, we fabricate in-house from heavier steel than most factory parts. For Linear operator arms and specific pivot components, we recommend OEM parts when they’re available, because the internal tolerances matter. The decision depends on what failed and why. If a bracket snapped because the gate was out of level, a new bracket alone won’t survive. We fix the gate first, then the part.
Styles & brands we work with

Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- Gate sags at the hinge side. The weld holding the hinge barrel to the post or gate frame has begun to crack. You’ll see rust-colored lines radiating from the weld bead. In Austin’s humidity swings, those cracks grow fast once they start.
- Grinding or popping when the gate opens. A broken weld on a Linear actuator mount lets the arm flex under load, so the gears inside the operator take uneven pressure. The popping is the arm shifting against its own bracket.
- Gate scrapes the driveway on the swing side. The frame has bent or the lower hinge weld has stretched. This is common on welded steel gates that have been hit or that have ten years of Austin sun on thin wall tubing.
- Operator works, gate doesn’t move smoothly. If the Linear motor runs but the gate jerks or stalls, the actuator arm may have partially separated from its welded mount. The motor is trying to push against a loose joint.
- Visible cracks in gate frame corners. Square-tube steel gates tend to crack at the welded corners first, especially the lower ones. Water sits inside the tube, rusts from the inside out, and the weld line is the first thing to give.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s how Austin pricing breaks down for Linear welding and fabrication work. A single hinge reweld or bracket repair runs $220 to $340. Fabricating a new gate tab or reinforcing a cracked frame corner runs $300 to $480. Full hinge replacement with fabricated plates and new barrels runs $400 to $680, depending on gate weight and how much disassembly is involved. Every job includes grinding the old weld, prepping the surface, and applying a rust-inhibiting coating or primer before we leave.
- Hinge reweld (single hinge): $220 – $340
- Bracket or gate tab fabrication: $300 – $480
- Frame crack repair with reinforcement plate: $350 – $520
- Full hinge replacement (two welded hinges): $400 – $680
- Actuator mount repair or refabrication: $260 – $460
We give you a written price before any work starts. That price includes labor, materials, consumables, and the welding time. You’ll know the number before we strike an arc. If the repair fails within 365 days, we come back and fix it at no charge under our 365-Day Done Right Promise. That’s written on the invoice, not a verbal pat on the back.
DIY or Call Us?
There’s a middle ground here. You can safely inspect a welded joint and take photos. Look for hairline cracks, rust bleeding from under paint, and any side-to-side play in the gate when it’s closed. Spray the hinge with a penetrating oil if it creaks, but don’t try to weld it yourself. Welding a gate that’s still attached to a post creates a fire risk near your house, and welding near a Linear actuator means you’re inches from wiring that doesn’t forgive mistakes. A bad weld on a gate hinge is also a safety problem: if that joint lets go while the gate is swinging, a few hundred pounds of steel goes where gravity says.
As Dean Prescott puts it, “Tell me what it’s doing wrong, and I’ll tell you what it costs to fix it – before I pull out a single tool.” That’s how we approach every weld job. Call (254) 280-0629 and describe the problem. We’ll give you a straight answer and a written price before any work begins.
FAQs
A properly welded and coated gate hinge or bracket repair should last 8 to 15 years in Austin’s climate, depending on gate weight, drainage, and whether the gate stays in level. The biggest threat to welds here isn’t impact; it’s trapped moisture and repeated thermal movement that turns small cracks into failures. We grind out old welds, not just cover them, which is why ours hold. Call (254) 280-0629 for a written estimate on your repair.
Yes, and in most cases that’s the right call. We can cut out the cracked section, weld in a reinforcement plate or new steel, and repaint the area. Full gate replacement only makes sense when the frame is rusted through in multiple spots or the gate is too thin to support a proper repair. Call us at (254) 280-0629 and we’ll tell you which situation you have.
Most single-hinge or bracket repairs take 2 to 3 hours from setup to final cleanup. Full hinge replacements or frame reinforcement jobs can take half a day. We’ll give you a real arrival window and keep the work area clean while we’re there. Call (254) 280-0629 to schedule.
Yes. Our trucks carry common Linear mounting brackets, actuator pivot parts, hinge stock, and steel plate for fabrication. If your repair calls for a Linear OEM arm or specific operator component we don’t have on board, we source it locally in Austin, usually same week. We also keep parts on hand for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems. Call (254) 280-0629 to confirm what we have for your model.
